Following the great success achieved in April 2023, the ANDOS Foggia Committee is once again bringing to the city the photographic exhibition “Scars – Rebirth”, scheduled from 4 to 27 March 2026 at the Gallery of Palazzo Dogana, seat of the Province of Foggia.
A highly emotional and culturally significant event, the exhibition invites the public to engage with intense and authentic images capable of transforming the scar into a symbol of strength, dignity, and rebirth.
Created by Ferrara-based photographers Stefano Pesaro and Federica Veronesi, the project developed as an evolution of the earlier exhibition “Scars”, which deeply moved audiences through photographs of great intensity and symbolic value.
The protagonists are women who have undergone breast cancer surgery and who, with courage and awareness, have chosen to show their scars as an expression of resilience and rebirth.
In this new edition, 35 photographs tell not only the story of the physical marks left by illness, but also of inner scars, tracing a profound journey of acceptance and transformation. The women portrayed, young warrior women immersed in bright and enveloping settings, express an authentic beauty that goes beyond the wound and redefines its meaning.
The exhibition is part of an oncology research project promoted by the association A-Rose ODV and strongly supported by ANDOS Foggia. The initiative reflects an integrated vision of healthcare, combining clinical treatment with pathways aimed at supporting the whole person from a physical, emotional, and relational perspective.
The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday 4 March at 5:00 p.m., with institutional greetings from the Mayor of Foggia, Gabriella Berardi, Director of the Library and Museum Centre, and Elisabetta Valleri, President of ANDOS Foggia. Also speaking at the event will be the authors Stefano Pesaro and Federica Veronesi, together with photographers Mimmo Attademo and Nicola Loviento.
The presence of psycho-oncologist Antonio Petrone will enrich the event with an in-depth reflection on the role of art in the healing process.
The Equality Councillor of the Province of Foggia, Assunta Di Matteo, will also attend the exhibition and stated:
«“Scars – The Rebirth" is an initiative of great civic and cultural value. Through the powerful language of photography, this exhibition restores dignity and visibility to women who have experienced illness, transforming suffering into awareness and strength. Speaking about women’s health also means promoting a culture of respect, prevention, and equality, while countering every form of discrimination that may affect women during treatment and in the workplace. As Equality Councillor, I believe it is essential to support projects that bring together health, culture, and rights, thereby helping to build a more supportive and inclusive community».
With this initiative, ANDOS Foggia renews its commitment to projects that combine culture, health, and social responsibility, promoting a more aware and engaged community.
