On 17 April 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a mobile blood donation unit will be set up in Piazza XX Settembre, near Palazzo Dogana in Foggia, for the third edition of the Blood Donation Day. The initiative, promoted and funded by the Equality Councillor of the Province of Foggia, Dr Assunta Di Matteo, is organised jointly with FIDAS Dauna – Provincial Committee of Foggia and carried out in collaboration with the team of Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza.

The day is addressed to two key groups: workers and students. On the one hand, the aim is to show that it is possible to donate blood during the working day, reconciling this act of solidarity with daily commitments. On the other hand, the initiative seeks to foster a culture of donation among younger generations, starting from the classroom and helping to shape the donors of tomorrow.

The initiative forms part of the strategic path towards blood self-sufficiency in Capitanata: an objective that depends on the active and continuous involvement of the community and requires a structural increase in the number of active donors across the province.

“Donating blood is an act of collective responsibility that does not require extraordinary effort”, declares Equality Councillor Assunta Di Matteo. “We want workers and students to play a leading role in this cultural change. Bringing the mobile blood donation unit into the square, at the heart of the city, is a concrete gesture of proximity: anyone can stop for just a few minutes and help save human lives”.

Employers, school heads, associations, and citizens are invited to promote the initiative and to take part in large numbers.
